![]() Again – a corn rib is not worth your finger!! This is dangerous as the knife jerks down through the corn as it cuts down. ⚠️ DO NOT HOLD THE CORN with your hand under the knife. □īang knife to cut down – Stand the corn upright. And it’s easier to cut straight down if you create a flat top to start the knife on, rather than a pointy end. This will create a stable flat base to stand the corn upright. Trim ends – Cut the base and end off the corn. First thing I do when I walk into the kitchen! I always have a wet chux under my cutting board before cutting anything. Non-slip cutting board – Put a wet cloth or similar under your cutting board to ensure it does not move. Not even corn ribs are worth losing a finger for! Don’t attempt this recipe if your knife is blunt! The risk of the knife slipping as you cut the corn is just too great. I’ve had considerable practice and I still end up with broken ribs every now and then. Heads up – If you’re a first timer, you’ll probably end up with some crooked and broken pieces. (PS That tiny girl did not show cutting her own corn ribs on TikTok… #cynic!) Cutting corn ribs Parsley, coriander/cilantro, chives or something else green finely chopped, for optional garnish.Īfter suffering through more corn rib cutting grievances than I care to confess ( how did that tiny girl cut those corn ribs on TikTok?□), I think I’ve figured out the easiest and safest method that doesn’t call for brute strength. Dream of all that butter seeping in between the kernels…. Garlic and butter – for dousing at the end. ![]() There’s a generous amount for the amount of corn because so much of it gets stuck on the cut side of the corn! Trust me on this. Seasoning – smoked paprika (or plain), garlic powder, salt and pepper. At its prime in summer, albeit the mild climate here in Australia means we get good corn year round, and generally for very good value too. I’m absolutely addicted! The corn is generously seasoned before cooking Then doused in garlic butter after cooking What you need for corn ribs So in the spirit of extra amazing-ness, these corn ribs are tossed in a generous amount of spicing (it will seem like too much – until the first bite), cooked (BBQ or oven) then doused in garlic butter which seeps into the kernels that open up like flowers as the corn ribs curl up.įlavour before and after cooking makes it exponentially good. So if I’m cutting corn ribs, then the end result needs to be worth it! (Read my steps, learn from my mistakes!). I tried…but personally found it lacking and seemingly unworthy for a dish with such great eating potential.Īlso, I’m not going to lie – cutting the corn takes more effort than slicing bread. It’s a delivery vehicle for flavour, not part of what you eat! About these particular corn ribsĪ lot of recipes seem to sparingly brush or sprinkle the corn ribs with oil and seasoning. * Just to clarify, after a number of reader messages, you do NOT eat the cob! It gets soaked in the seasoned garlic butter and you sort of suck it out when you bite the kernels off the cob. Which means every time you take a bite of corn kernels you get a squirt of the flavourful garlic butter in your mouth as well. So you can get your flavour of choice (seasoned garlic butter, in my case) to seep all the way into the cob. The beauty of cooking corn this way is that the kernels open up in a way they never do when you cook whole corn on the cob. Why corn ribs are so good – It’s so much more than just the novelty factor of the curled corn. I’m so unfashionable when it comes to anything – food, fashion, or otherwise – I didn’t even realise this was a trend until I started writing this post today and did my usual obligatory Google research!Īlso, truthfully, I find most food trends disappoint. ![]() Named as such because of the rib-like shape and the manner in which it is eaten (like ribs!), corn ribs are apparently a food trend that went nuts a couple of years ago. However, the network and operating system may not notify you if an Illustrator file or scratch disk file contains damaged or incomplete information. Saving files on a network drive or placing linked files in Illustrator from a network drive can slow down Illustrator, or corrupt your files. The depth of verification depends on the network software package, and may not be accessible by the operating system. During transmission and reception, network software verifies that data has been sent and received. Network connections can suddenly become unavailable, increasing the risk of data loss and application error. Multiple factors affect data transmission along a network, including file servers, routers, bridges, network cards, software, cables, connectors, power cables, and power supplies. (For example, the amplitude of line noise, RF interference, or packet collisions are all factors that impact the reliability of the network.) This additional layer of software and hardware can impact application performance. Each configuration requires specialized software and hardware, with varying set-ups, preferences, and updates. Organizations use many different network configurations (for example, multi-launch, client-server, or peer-peer) and types (for example, ethernet, token ring, or IP). Therefore, your network or network configuration can cause errors, crashes, or unexpected behavior. However, not all existing network configurations which include different software, hardware, settings, and access rights have been tested. Here are some of the benefits of random sampling. Random sampling is a common method of selecting samples from a population. This method will reduce the overall cost of your sampling. After that, some of these subgroups are randomly selected and simple random samples are then gathered within these subgroups. Here, the population is divided into a large number of subgroups. If you suspect that men and women may have different opinions on a subject, and women make up a greater proportion of your population, you may want to stratify your sample and randomly select men and women based on their proportion in the population.Ĭlustered Sampling – Cluster sampling is like stratified sampling. Stratified Random Sampling – If you suspect there are unique differences between items in your population, you might use this sampling strategy to assure you get a balanced representation of the population. ![]() For example, you might decide to randomly select ten items every hour from a production line. ![]() Systematic Random Sampling – This technique is good for process sampling whereby you would randomly select your items using a fixed periodicity of time. Then you can use a random number table or a computerized random number generator to select your random samples. First, you must assign a unique identifier to each item. Simple random sampling – In this sampling method, each item in the population has an equal probability of getting selected in the sample. The different methods of conducting random sampling are as follows: The primary feature of random sampling is that the selection of observations must occur in a random way such that they do not differ in any significant way from the rest of the population that was not selected. Random sampling is a method of choosing a sample of observations from a population to draw assumptions and make inferences about the population. Random sampling is a statistical method of selecting a sample of data from a larger set in such a way that each data point has an equal chance of being selected, so that the sample represents the population from which it was drawn. ![]() As you can see from this larger photo, it is mostly trees in the background so I can't replace the sky. Your tips have helped slightly but some areas I guess were a little too blown out. You can also try to duplicate the background and put the new layer in Multiply (blending mode) reduce the opacity until you're happy with the background and use a layer mask or eraser tool to bring your subject back in front in it's original exposure. I'm glad it helped you guys! I found it on the net someplace but can't remember where. Wow pegio that's a good one! thanks! I'm also adding it to my book of Elements How-TosĪlso, Scott Kelby's book has a "how to replace the sky' tutorial that's pretty cool too I've pasted this one into my Elements Tips folder. Hey pegjo.Thats a really good tip you've shown us there. I use it quite a lot but if it is totally blown out it won't help much. Or maybe just reduce the opacity of the soft light layer. You can use a mask to get rid of the dark parts that you don't want to be dark. Hold the shift key down and drag your mouse from the top center to the bottom center.Ĭhange the blending mode of that layer to Soft Light. If the sky is not totally blown out this may help.Ĭlick on D to make sure black is the forground color and white is the background color.Īt the top-choose black and transparent as the gradient color. I will try some of these suggestions and see if I can fix it. If the effect's too much, you can reduce the Opacity (to the right of the blend mode) until you're happy with the result. You can then use the Eraser to rub out the parts you don't want to change with this adjustment. Multiply or Linear Burn would be my guess to darken up your overexposed area. Go to (I think!) Window -> Layer Palette, then in the Layer Palette change the blend mode (where it says "Normal") to something else. It's well worth noting that you can select the problem area using one of the selection tools, feather your selection to smooth the transition, then apply one of these methods, so that the well-exposed part of your shot remains untouched.įor something slightly more advanced, try opening your photo, then pressing Ctrl + J to duplicate it onto a new layer. Pulling the Highlights slider to the right may have some positive effect, but at the ame time it might ruin highlights in other parts of your pic. Otherwise, the Levels option mentioned above could work.Īnother alternative would be to try the "Highlights and Shadows" dialog (under the same menu as Levels). you only have a JPEG), and the background's completely white, it's gone forever (this sucks - I've done it soooo many times!). The basic point is that if you haven't shot RAW (i.e. So try using RAW and use the Adobe Camera RAW that comes with Elements to tease the details out of highlights and shadows then use the photo editor to fine tune. That gives you a much wider dynamic range to work with compared with an out-of-camera jpeg. I see you're a 350D user so you should be able to shoot RAW. Scott Kelby's book on your PSE version has a section just for over exposure. Or, click cancel and go back through procedure and click on Brightness. Then click Reset and start over with the left arrow. Play with these arrows back and forth to get the idea of what each does. Open PSE, Go across top of page to "Enhance" Scroll down to "Adjust Lighting" and across to three suggestions one being "Levels" as mentioned above. Without seeing the photo also, I will agree with the other two posts, here. You said that the sun was the problem. So if it was mostly sky that was over exposed. Without seeing the image I'd guess that you could use a Levels adjustment layer, or maybe Brightness/Contrast. Your link is telling me that I don't have permission to view the page/image. Scott Kelby's books are of great help, too. I could not see your picture as it was tagged private.Ī simple way is to make a duplicate layer and use levels to darken light areas and then erase areas that are now too dark.Īnother help would be to buy a polarizer for your camera. ![]() Is this fixable? If so, can I bother somebody to tell me how to do it? An example is 21 January 2009 PDT I have a few photos that I took today where the subject is correctly exposed but the background (because of sun) is over exposed. ![]() Remember, the cool thing about the Contour Shuttle is whatever program is active, Contour will automatically find it in their control panel if it is listed and will automatically use it, but you can then easily customize it.
